Dental implants

what is a dental implant?
They are artificial roots that are used to replace natural teeth that have been lost due to various cavities, traumatisms or any other situation. Are screw-shaped structures that are inserted into the maxillary or mandibular bone depends on the area where the tooth has been lost. Currently they are one of the most conservative treatments, because we can substitute pieces without affecting the rest of the teeth, they give us more natural appearance since it simulates with great precision the natural teeth, they provide us with much more stability than Removable prostheses or crowns, as well as gives us better functionality

Can I have a dental implant?
In principle anyone who needs it can place a dental implant, systemically patients should be controlled if they suffer from any disease. The implants are made with biocompatible materials, which means, they do not have any type of adverse reaction for the organism. They are inert materials for the bone. There is a very low percentage 2% of cases where there is some type of rejection, but this is in the process of osteointegration and in principle with the praxis and adequate post-operative care these probabilities are really scarce.

What is the process to place the dental implant?

  • Step 1: Diagnosing and Planning the treatment with your dentist
    • Step 2: Implant placement: the implant is placed in the jaw or maxilla with local anesthesia.
    • Step 3: Healing phase, the implant is integrated to your bone during this phase, which lasts between six weeks and several months.
    • Step 4: Making your new teeth
    • Step 6: Aftercare: oral hygiene as usual and regular check-ups by your dentist to maintain the proper functioning of your new teeth in long term.

There are many implant systems, but not all are the same, today implant companies are offering many types of implants, but not all offer the same quality or have undergone clinical trials in long-term studies. Most patients are not aware of the differences that exist between implant systems.
In our clinic we make sure to offer a treatment of excellence and quality that is why we work with the pioneer implant system worldwide, Straumann is a leading company in dental implantology, which has been researching, developing and manufacturing implants since 1974.

What differentiates the Strumann system from other implants?
Among the advantages offered by this implant system is its type of high performance titanium treatment, specifically designed by Straumann called Roxalid, to offer greater strength and excellent osseointegration capabilities.

Roxolid offers numerous advantages to avoid invasive procedures with bone grafts:
• Minimize patient anxiety with shorter treatment times
• Faster healing and less postoperative discomfort.
• Implants whose anatomy protect vital structures and vascularization.
• Minimize the patient’s concerns by decreasing the cost of treatment.

It also has another surface treatment of the implant called SLActive® is designed to facilitate a safer and faster treatment, reducing the healing period from 6 – 8 weeks to only 3 – 4 weeks in all indications.

The key to start the healing process is the formation of blood clots on the surface of the implant. The hydrophilic and chemically active properties of SLActive® provide a more extensive accessible surface to improve the adsorption of blood proteins and the formation of fibrin networks. These conditions are ideal for the formation of blood clots and for the beginning of the healing process

Building a larger bone base is essential for implant treatment. The SLActive® surface helps accelerate bone maturation. In order for osseointegration to be successful, it is essential that a functional vascular system be constructed very quickly. The formation of blood vessels is a continuous process in healing after surgery. It has been shown that the SLActive® surface stimulates much more the growth of blood vessels than hydrophobic surfaces.
Finally we have Straumann PURE Ceramic implant a solution without metals and ivory color to treat patients with thin or retracted gums and some demands
